India Rises To 9th Globally In Forest Area Ranking

India has achieved a noteworthy  corner in global  timber conservation, climbing to the 9th position worldwide in terms of total  timber area, according to the Global Forest coffers Assessment( GFRA) 2025 released by the Food and Agriculture Organization( FAO) in Bali. This marks an  enhancement from the  former assessment, in which India was placed 10th encyclopedically. Alongside this advancement, India continues to hold the 3rd position in terms of periodic  timber area gain, reflecting sustained progress in afforestation and  timber  operation  enterprise.

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Shri Bhupender Yadav,  stressed this development on the social media platform ‘ X’, emphasizing that the ranking is a testament to the government’s  sweats to strengthen ecological balance through strategic policy  perpetration and community engagement. According to Shri Yadav, India’s ascent in global  timber rankings underscores the effectiveness of government- led programmes that  concentrate on  timber protection, afforestation, and sustainable environmental practices.

The success is attributed to a combination of central and state government  enterprise aimed at enhancing  timber cover and promoting environmental  mindfulness. programs and programmes  enforced under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have played a  pivotal  part in this achievement. The Prime Minister’s  harmonious advocacy for environmental  knowledge, including  enterprise like ‘ Ek Ped Ma Ke Naam’, has inspired  wide public participation in tree colony and  timber conservation  sweats across the country. similar  enterprise have encouraged citizens to take an active  part in conserving natural  coffers, creating a sense of collaborative responsibility towards sustainability.

State governments have also contributed significantly through targeted colony drives,  timber restoration  systems, and measures to  help deforestation. These  sweats have been  rounded  by community- led  conduct that engage original populations in  guarding and managing  timber  coffers. Over time, these combined  sweats have helped India not only increase its  timber area but also ameliorate the quality and adaptability of its  timbers, thereby contributing to biodiversity conservation and climate mitigation.

The GFRA 2025 report, which assesses  timber  coffers encyclopedically, evaluates countries grounded on parameters  similar as  timber extent, gain, loss, and overall  operation practices. India’s rise in ranking reflects not just the expansion of  timber cover but also the effectiveness of  programs aimed at sustainable  timber  operation. Maintaining the 3rd position in periodic  timber gain is particularly significant, as it indicates that India is n’t only conserving being  timbers but  laboriously expanding green cover, contributing to global environmental  pretensions and climate adaptability.

Experts have noted that India’s  timber  programs have evolved over the times to integrate ecological, social, and  profitable  confines. Measures  similar as compensatory afforestation, participatory  timber  operation, and  creation of agroforestry have created a more inclusive approach to  timber conservation. By involving original communities and incentivizing tree colony  sweats, these programmes have assured that environmental earnings are sustainable and extensively supported.

The emphasis on  timber conservation aligns with India’s broader environmental  docket, including commitments to reduce carbon emigrations, enhance biodiversity, and combat climate change. Expanding  timber cover contributes to carbon  insulation, mitigates soil  corrosion, supports wildlife  territories, and improves air and water quality, which are  pivotal for overall ecological stability. India’s progress demonstrates that targeted policy measures, combined with public engagement, can achieve measurable environmental  issues.

Shri Yadav  underlined that the government’s ongoing  sweats in  timber  operation are part of a long- term vision to balance development with environmental sustainability. The achievement of moving up in global rankings and maintaining high periodic  timber earnings reflects both strategic planning and  harmonious  perpetration of afforestation and conservation measures. He emphasized that continued public involvement and  mindfulness are  crucial to sustaining these earnings and  farther enhancing India’s  timber  coffers.

This  corner also positions India as a global leader in  timber conservation, contributing to  transnational environmental  objects while setting an  illustration for other nations. The integration of policy  enterprise, community participation, and state-  position  perpetration has proven effective in expanding and maintaining  timber cover, demonstrating that coordinated action can lead to significant ecological advancements.

India’s progress in  timber area and periodic  timber gain represents  further than just numerical growth; it symbolizes the country’s commitment to  erecting a greener, sustainable future. By fostering  wide participation in environmental stewardship and  enforcing  programs that encourage afforestation and  timber protection, India continues to strengthen its ecological foundations while contributing  appreciatively to global conservation  sweats. The country’s experience underscores the  eventuality for comprehensive, inclusive strategies to drive meaningful environmental  issues,  icing that  timbers remain a vital resource for generations to come.
